Dr. Ausaf Ali was born in the village of Alipur Khera, in the district ofMainpuri in Uttar Pradesh, India, in 1934. He is Muslim (Sunni) by birth. He was educated in the local schools and at the Muslim University, Aligarh, India. On migration to Pakistan in 1953, he continued his education at the University of Karachi from which he graduated with M.Com. and MBA degrees. In the United States, he continued his education at the University of Southern California from which he received M.Acc. (Master of Accounting) and MA and Ph.D. in Economics.
Dr. Ausaf Ali taught in the business colleges in Karachi and was a professor at the Institute of Business Administration of the University of Karachi. He also worked in government and industry in Pakistan. In the United States he entered the civil service of the City of Los Angles from which he retired in 1998.
Dr. Ausaf Ali has published both in Pakistan and the United States over the last thirty-five years. His publications include Modern Muslim Thought (Two Volumes); Islam., Science and Islamic Social Ethics', Broader Dimensions of the Ideology of Pakistan', and Studies Towards an Understanding of the Developmental Perspective and numerous articles. He edited Sirah of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh): Contemporary Meaning and Relevance, 1994 and Proceedings of the Third Summer Seminar for College Teachers of Commerce, 1962, Also, with Mushtaqur Rahman, he co-edicted Social Sciences, Muslims and Pakistan: Beyond Today (1995).
The third volume of Dr. Ausaf Ali's Modern Muslim Thought is in press. Currently, he is engaged in the research for and writing of three long essays under the titles of "A Twenty-first Century Approach to a Comprehensive Interpretation of Islam," "An Essay on Contemporary Muslim Social Ethics," and "Muslim Womanhood in the Postmodern World."
